STRAWBERRY PROFILE  LUCY BULL
INTERVIEW BY CAIT P. MCDONOUGH

Lucy Bull is an artist and curator living and working in Los Angeles, California. I was first drawn to her work for its welcoming beauty. Her use of texture and her varying brushwork effortlessly contribute to a lavish collection of transfixing paintings. She has published a book of her works, Plume, with One Star Press. Bull’s work has been featured in galleries such as Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York City and also with Mother Culture.

Most recently Bull has begun curating her own series titled, From the Desk of Lucy Bull. The desk-top exhibition space challenges the traditional gallery’s purpose, bringing viewers, work and artists into one home in a communal experiment. Her most recent exhibition, featuring artist Aleksander Hardashnakov, opened October 21st.

In our early morning phone call, Lucy and I discussed her technique, process and how The Desk came to be. We also commiserated about instagram culture and our love/hate relationship with a stuffy, yet hopeful art scene. Lucy’s raw spirit and candidness made for easy conversation and laughs. She is genuine and tender in her appreciation for other artists and respecting work and space. After the interview, have a listen to Lucy’s gorgeous mix featuring A.C. Marias, Brian Eno and more.
